# Interactive Web Page Assignment Brief

You will create an interactive web page (again using HTML, CSS and Javascript and other techniques submitted as a .Zip file). Your site will be an artifact of the future that situates us in your imagined world; it will tell us what it is like to live there by communicating experiences and narratives.

> *Writing and exercises towards the completion of this assignment, completed during lectures, will comprise 25% of your grade.*

Your interactive site will be an artwork that makes us think more deeply about the implications of your speculation. It will incorporate key ideas, themes, settings and technologies from your previous assignment in an innovative premise. Think of this task as a way into your world that brings it to life and animates your critical concerns through specific experiences, platforms and/or narratives. You are encouraged to be bold and experimental in your approach to narrative - what can your piece be? How can you stretch the form to make it new and interesting.

## It must contain, in any order or form:

### a. Video

This can be live action, animation or made with any other tool of your choosing except generative AI (stock footage is not allowed).

### b. Text

Your site should contain around **800-1000 words** (this may vary depending on the format and style of your story).

### c. Audio

Music, dialogue and/or atmos/sound fx must be included in your piece.

### d. Character

At least **1 character**.

### e. Interactive Elements

At least **3 interactive elements** (this can include your main navigation system, image rollovers, text popups, CSS/Javascript animations and transitions - the sky is the limit depending on how far you want to go with Javascript and/or other interactive systems).

This will not be a stretch — it will be difficult to complete this task without fulfilling this criteria.

### f. Experience Time

It should take around **10 minutes** to experience/absorb your piece (this is negotiable depending on your idea).

# Possible framing devices

Your artifact might take the form of:

These are just some example ideas - use your imagination:

- A promotion for a product/service/app/corporation/platform of the future that incorporates user/proprietor testimony.

- A government portal or website explaining a service or form of bureaucracy.

- A speculative platform of service from the future.

- A news report outlining an important event related to your imagined technology that includes testimony from those affected.

- A story told in the form of an online discussion thread embellished with accompanying media.

- A private discussion via text that includes images/video etc.

- Be imaginative and experimental! Ask Yourself: (these are not to be used as headings, they're prompts for your thinking)

  What journey will your viewer undertake to understand your future world, and through it, our own?  

  What balance of different forms of media does your world/story require?  

  What do you want your viewers to feel, think and consider when viewing your story?  

  What message do you want your viewers to receive?  

  What is the most elegant way to code and structure your interactive narrative?

## Attendance and Special Consideration:

- Note this course, like all courses in SAM, has an 80% attendance requirement for tutorials. You will fail if you do not achieve this or communicate/negotiate legitimate reasons for non-attendance.

- Attendance at lectures is mandatory if you want to get a good grade on the weekly tasks, which account for 25% of your grade. You must submit 4 of 5 during first part of the term and 3 of 4 in the second part of the term. They can only be submitted during lecture periods - the board will be locked at the end of the lecture. Failing to submit the required writing will mean you get 0 for that criteria on each assignment.
